On Becoming a Father
Before I became a father, I felt a profound need to establish guiding theme that would navigate me through the many decades ahead. After extensive research and reflection, I settled on three key principles that continue to guide me today.
“For the mind does not require filling like a bottle, but rather, like wood, it only requires kindling to create in it an impulse to think independently and an ardent desire for the truth.”
— Plutarch
“Instead of a way to not lose my child, try asking for a way to lose my fear of it.”
— Marcus Aurelius
“The best gift a father can give his children is to show them he loves their mother.”
— Howard W. Hunter
Looking back, I realize that I still adhere to these rules, now with a deeper understanding of their true meaning and undeniable significance.
